1ArmageddonThe sky was bright
Some would say alight
Cause armageddon don’t break for none
I tried to drive all night
Till I started to hallucinate
About Cassandra and the curse of fate
Then I heard you say
“Oh hallelujah”
We’re getting down to the…

Keep me awake, oh for goodness sake
The road signs pass by
Another way to tell the time
Hey hey hey
Keep me awake, oh for goodness sake
Road signs pass by
Another way to tell the time
Hey hey hey

Well. The end is nigh
So why don’t I
Turn the music up and let it play
I tried to make it right
But the visions came through the smoke
I tried to speak but instead I choked
I heard you say
“I don’t believe you”
I was all I could do to run

Keep me awake, oh for goodness sake
The road signs pass by
Another way to tell the time
Hey hey hey
Keep me awake, oh for goodness sake
Road signs pass by
Another way to tell the time
Hey hey hey

Gonna buy a new coat
Tomorrow
Gonna get my kicks today
Gonna buy a new Watch
Tomorrow
Gonna stop telling time today

Keep me awake, oh for goodness sake
The road signs pass by
Another way to tell the time
Hey hey hey
Keep me awake, oh for goodness sake
Road signs pass by
Another way to tell the time
Hey hey hey

2NapoleonIt was a leap of a year I was the youngest son
A bare-foot boy on the prairie run
It was the call of the wild it was the love of the laugh
The Elbow River and the Fish Creek Camp

There's a river path I take as I ride on into town
I follow it down to the livery

There's space out here for a boy to be
Bigger than his reveries

Step lightly as you go, catch the Chinook wind out of the Calgary cold
Step lightly as you go, Napoleon knows the long way home

Margaret Armstrong is a hell of a gal
We moved up North to Girouville
Well the land is wild but she makes it sing
My home, my heart, my everything

It’s simple but it's ours
This little skid shack
It’s simple but it's ours for us to build

Margie and me made a family
You love em right, then you watch em grow

And step lightly as you go
Catch the Chinook wind out of the Calgary cold
Step lightly as you go
Napoleon knows the long way home

Hey little girl come and sit with me
Even mountains move after centuries
No there ain't no bears, see they’re all asleep
Be careful here, it's getting steep

There's a thing you’re looking for and you’ll find it when you’re brave
And when you do I hope you think of me

Hey Little Girl oh it's been so sweet

And step lightly as you go
Catch the Chinook wind out of the Calgary cold
Step lightly as you go
Napoleon knows the long way home
Step lightly as you go
Napoleon knows the long way home

3The WarI know you’re sad and sick and sorry
You wear it like a skin
You’ve made a shell and put it forward
To prevent us breaking in
It’s closing like a vice
All that love and sacrifice
Time to pay the price
And fight the war, fight the war
Fight the war, oh fight the war

I’ll be the bones, I’ll be the blood, I’ll be the muscle
You make the move
Where lies a heart that is beating
If it’s beating, that's your truth
Where the body breaks
And the toil overtakes
I’ll give you mine
But its time
To fight the war, fight the war,
Fight the war, fight the war

And hold on Darling find your fight!
Let it be your gavity that pulls you to the light
And hold on Darling find your fight!
Let it be your gravity that pulls you back to me
Fight the war, fight the war
Fight the war, fight the war

I can see it, I can see it, I can see it in your eyes
Its heavier than me, but I’m strong I’m steady
I’m like stones within the sea
So fight the war, Fight the war
Fight the war, fight the war

And hold on Darling find your fight!
Let it be your gravity that pulls you back to me
Hold on Darling find your Fight!
Don’t you dare go gentle to that godforsaken night
Just fight the war, fight the war
Fight the war, fight the war

4Let Your Trouble GoI wish I could hold your grief in mind
And just let you take the day
You could sit down by the water
Let it rise up, with the tides

Oh when the levee breaks
Oh when the levee breaks

I don’t believe in a lot
But I’m hopeful
What other choice do we got? Find a way
Whether you’re here or you’re gone
I’m still hopeful
I hear your voice and it's not far away

Let your trouble go
Let your trouble go
Let your trouble go
Let your trouble go

There’s a way for us to live past fear
Breaking out to bigger space
I’ve been learning from the water
Let it rise up, with the tides

Oh when the levee breaks
Oh when the levee breaks

I don’t believe in a lot
But I’m hopeful
What other choice do we got? Find a way
Whether you’re here or you’re gone
I’m still hopeful
I hear your voice and it's not far away

Let your trouble go
Let your trouble go
Let your trouble go
Let your trouble go

I don’t believe in a lot
But I’m hopeful
What other choice do we got? Find a way
Whether you’re here or you’re gone
I’m still hopeful
I hear your voice and it's not far away

5The DissertationAt 14 in a moment of insecurity
My mom came to me and said
“Am, be beautiful if it’s what you want.
the world can always use more beauty”
She said;
“But be smart first.
Because no one will give you the benefit of the doubt.
They shout that you fit
A standard and it
Has been pandered to women since before you were a thought”.
She said;
“You live in a breakable, takeable body.
One that gets more profitable each day.
Pilot this world as a woman with a voice.
Don’t settle for lesser or be the second choice.
Have something to say”.

Believe me I’ve never been at a loss for words
But I’m not as brave as my mother
So for a while I roared forward
Singing other people’s stories, and some just made up
because I wanted so badly relate
To feeling so big your caution deflates
And your vocal chords slam
lungs collapse and expand
I mistook it for rage at the age, as many 14 year olds do.

I lived in privileged town
Charged with a childish the need to impress
and given every opportunity to go to university
it never occurred to me that I would do anything less

So I began to learn

I learned that we live in a collapsible yet expanding universe
And let me be the first
To say that we can talk about the speed of light any day
So long as it is in a vacuum and we are both in constant motion
The notion that an impressive title could replace human connection
Was a lie I told myself my entire degree
I went so far as to make it my identity
You see – the truth is I am an excellent imposter
And an excellent parrot
But there merit to learning that you can fail
at something that you don’t want to do
So you may as well try for the thing you want most.

So I took a step back
And I began to try
I tied a few notes to words
And felt first how the universe can collapse and expand

And the thing is I’m always late,
I let the stars determine my fate
I’ve been known to procrastinate,
And even I have to admit,
I live in the mind of an artist
One who tried her hardest to be anything and everything else
It took me time to see the value of art in the layers of humanity
To see it's a continuous line, a cosine wave
Where the ups and downs can only be compared because we are both in constant motion
And the notion
That a number can replace the value of human connection
Is a lie we tell ourselves to create scarcity out of something universal

You see I live beyond my means
And money is one thing
But value is another
And its funny how something
Can be so commonly consumed and we’re still blind to its worth
I get it,
sometimes out of frustration I want to shake down Spotify
until I hear Ching ching
But I don’t want to be bitter
Because the FOREST becomes a very different place, if the birds refuse to sing
And I don’t ever want my corner of the forest to quiet.

Because music is a life-line in a lifetime.
From the moment an infant claps her hands
Its sound and motion
And the notion that art is an app or luxury
Rather than integral to our history
Is a lie whether or not we pay for it

How else are supposed to navigate feeling in love
failing at love
prevailing at love
unrequited of

How else would we focus out senses to release our emotions?
And how ever would we navigate the big ones, like grief?

You see we live on a Cartesian plain
And sometimes cars just drift into the oncoming lane
When resounding crash settles
The world won’t ever be the same
The music of her name
Charged with the need to express the pain
And beauty of holding your loved ones near
Art is integral to love and grief is the last form of love you can give

I take a step back
And I begin to see the way
At every choice, I hear my mothers voice
Have something to say

I stand Triangulated between two points, music and connection
I think the distance is actually just commitment
And I am not lost
Its there in the collapse and expand
Of my heart as no matter what my title is ill still make art
And ill do so honestly in my noisy little part of the forest

And I begin to sing
It’s the closest that I’ll ever be to something else outside of me, See i’ve been
Listening for A deeper call, and when I learn to hear it all, I’ll call back

And I begin to sing
And I begin to sing
